Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use our contact forms, subscribe to updates, or donate, we collect your name, email address, and optional phone number. We do not store payment card information; Stripe handles that securely.

AI Chat Information

When you use the AI chat feature, your questions and the responses from Claude are processed by Anthropic. Questions are not stored long-term and are used only to provide you with assistance. See the AI Chat section below.

Automatically Collected Information

We collect minimal analytics via PostHog: page views, time on site, and device type. This helps us understand how users interact with the site and improve our service. No personally identifiable information is collected automatically.

How We Use Your Information

  • To respond to your inquiries and provide support
  • To process donations (payment processing via Stripe)
  • To send occasional updates about site improvements (only if you've opted in)
  • To improve our website and content based on usage analytics
  • To comply with legal obligations

Analytics: PostHog

We use PostHog to track non-personally identifiable analytics:

  • Page views and user flows
  • Device type and browser information
  • Approximate location (country/region, no specific address)
  • Time on site and bounce rates

PostHog does not identify individual users by name, email, or IP address without explicit opt-in. You can opt out of analytics by disabling cookies or visiting the PostHog privacy page.

AI Chat: Claude Integration

Our AI chat feature is powered by Claude (Anthropic). When you use the chat:

  • Your questions are sent to Anthropic's servers
  • Claude generates a response based on your question
  • Responses are not stored indefinitely; Anthropic may retain logs for up to 30 days for security and improvement purposes
  • Your questions and chat history are not used to train Claude or sold to third parties

Do not include sensitive personal information (full names, addresses, phone numbers, financial data) in the chat. The chat is for general legal information, not confidential legal advice.

Donations: Stripe Payment Processing

Donations are processed securely via Stripe. We do not store or access your payment card information. Stripe handles all payment processing and complies with PCI-DSS standards.

Your donation information (name, email, donation amount) is stored in our records for receipting and accounting purposes only.

Your Rights

  • Access: You have the right to request what personal information we have about you.
  • Correction: You can request we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: You can request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal holds for tax/financial records).
  • Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from email updates or opt out of analytics at any time.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary:

  • Donation records: Retained for 7 years for tax/accounting purposes (as required by Canadian law)
  • Contact form submissions: Retained for 1 year, then deleted unless you've opted in for updates
  • Email subscribers: Retained until you unsubscribe
  • Analytics: Retained for 90 days (PostHog default)

MyTenantRights.ca is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we become aware a child has provided information, we will delete it.
